100 Nigerians deported from Finland today

No fewer than 100 Nigerians were deported from Finland today Thursday December 11th after failing to get asylum. According to The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the deportees included women, children and whole families. They arrived at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, at 7a.m. aboard cargo airline - Privilege Gourment.

A deportee, Mr Isaac Ejiofor, told NAN that he had no criminal records in Finland and wondered why he was deported after spending over one year in the asylum camp. Ejiofor said he was earlier in Greece but later travelled to Finland to seek asylum in a bid to get a permit to work there.
"A policeman asked me what I want since I did not have any criminal record to warrant my deportation. I said I wanted to work and live a normal life in Finland, so he (policeman) told me to seek asylum and I did that. I was taken to the asylum camp and was there for more than a year processing my work documents. There were other African nationals there with four Nigerians. Suddenly, we, the Nigerians were brought out and deported without any reason.
"The Nigerian Embassy in Finland refused to come to my aid, even after I paid 1,500 euros to embassy officials’’, he alleged.
Another deportee, who wanted to be identified as Jackso, alleged that officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Finland colluded with some Finnish immigration officers to extort money from asylum seekers in the camp. Jackso said that the embassy officials promised to assist them to get work permits from the Finnish authority.

A female deportee, simply called Esther, said that she and her husband had been in Finland for over 14 years and was surprised that they were deported without committing any offense. Esther said she was deported along with her husband and seven-year old daughter without any compensation. She said that other Africans in the camp were given an opportunity to stay and work in Finland, but that the Finnish authorities were hostile to Nigerians.

She appealed to the Federal Government to come to their aid, particularly Nigerians in Finland and other European countries. She said most Nigerians in asylum in Finland came from other parts of Europe like Greece, Denmark, Sweden and Norway in order to acquire work documents.

NAN reports that of the deportees, three men were arrested for violence and were taken to the MMIA Police Station. Some others were arrested on arrival by the police for travel offenses and taken by a sheriff bus to the Criminal Investigation Department, Nigerian Police Force, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos.

  71. Ina cargo plane though? Not even the comfort of a passenger aircraft. Well, when you go to anybody's country seeking asylum the ball is in their court. Further, I wonder why Nigerians for all their education cannot research the places they choose to go to. Finland is a very insular society and quite racist. These places are not open to immigrants.

Instead of blaming these countries blame your governments for not building a strong and prosperous nation where you will not have to go to a stranger's land and get treated like crap.

  76. Nigerians, When will you grow up when will you change you go all the way to Europe for a better life, there countries are for the native people of that land so you have no right to be there if they want to send you packing they can because it is their land. rather than press our Government to develop our country and tell them enough is enough we sit back and just watch like fools as they steal money from under our noses, why do we have one of the best African economies in Africa when half of the country is living in poverty, Look at other countries developing fast while ours have remained stagnant for the last 10 years no development no change but we are quick to build our egos up by travelling by travelling to europe, and when we go to [laces like london and come back we look at their environment and how beautiful it is then we come back to nigeria and see how wretched it is and we dont riot and press our government we want to live exactly how they lived i kid you not nigeria would be a better country if it was still under the power of the british because after all the independence and we still live in very poor conditions just shows how we useless we are as a country.

  85. Smh. u people need to travel. u can not stay in othe people countries without a proper document, they don not allow you to work just like that, its unless they called you from you are country or u ha legall document, for someone to say i ask for asylum so the can give me a work permit sorry to say but that is a bullshit, they do not give you asylum because you want to work, the only give you if you have problem in your country and they have to believe your story and economic issue is excluded. Now my fellow Naija have spoiled the market, men and women sell drugs, women also go for prostitution, its very rare for a nigeria to get an asylum because of these issue, any country you go now if you say your a nigerian they do nit pay antention to you.. Before we start to blame them i think we should change first..

    ReplyDelete
  113. Over 100 Nigerians were on Wednesday deported from four Scandinavian countries for immigration and related offences.

The deportees were from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

There were flown into the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, aboard a chartered aircraft that took off from Oslo, Norway, en route Madrid, Spain.

The aircraft arrived Lagos at about 6. 50pm and taxied to the cargo wing of the airport where the deportees were handed over to security agencies for documentation.

Shortly after they disembarked from the aircraft, the deportees were escorted by security personnel that led them to the palace gate entrance of the cargo terminal.

The Nation gathered that they were returned home after they failed to secure asylum in Finland, where they have been in deportation camp.

Some of the deportees with crime and related offences were taken away in a Coaster bus driven by Sheriffs from the courts.

About three of the deportees were carried in Hilux Pick up van to the Beesam Police Station to answer for violence while on board.

Their documents, it was learnt had been confiscated by relevant security agencies.

One of the deportees who declined to give his name alleged that Nigerian Embassy officials in Sweden connived with Norwegian authorities to facilitate their deportation.

He alleged that a certain female embassy official collected over one thousand Euros per deportee from the Norwegian government to facilitate their return.

Another deportee, who also declined to give her name, said despite her being pregnant, the authorities maltreated her in Finland.

The deportee said she moved to Finland to seek asylum after spending over eight years in Greece.Over 100 Nigerians were on Wednesday deported from four Scandinavian countries for immigration and related offences.
