Chris Okotie verbally attacks ex-wife Stephanie during church service

This happened in his House Hold of God Church just two days ago...during his sermon on Sunday August 12th. According to some members of his church that attended the service that Sunday morning, pastor Chris Okotie threw caution into the wind and verbally attacked his estranged wife, Stephanie Henshaw, comparing her to Jezebel in the bible and saying that he was free to judge her because of what he suffered in her hands. (He didn't say what). He was also quoted as saying that Stephanie was free to go to CNN or BBC to talk about him but he will never take her back.

Those who listened to him said he sounded so bitter and had never spoken about her like that before.

Pastor Chris has also taken back the two expensive cars he gave Stephanie during their four year marriage; a Benz S Class and a BMW X6.

"Pastor" Chris is a very funny guy. In any field one is in there re always role models. He should have looked up to men like Adeboye, Kumuyi, who have endured the trials of marriage not because it is easy but cos they re accountable to millions of people as such should always be role models. Bn a pastor is not easy @̤̥̣̈̊̇ all. We need to be praying for them ąΩ̶̣̣̥̇̊d̶̲̥̅̊ the same time looking out for those crooks in pastor's robe.

I had a whole lot of things to write b4 and sincerely they are not good comments to make abt a "man of God" and I realized m not God so I shouldn't Jugde a man of God. It is very clear in malachi that God hates divorce, wat should I believe bt a man of God who is seperated 4rm his wife. Wat will he tell Christian couples going through challenges in their marital lives. This is definately not a good example 4 Christians to emulate and I wonder wat he preaches in his church. I sincerely weep 4 his congregation and d kind of leader they r subjected to, its really unfortunate. Sometimes I feel God personally needs to screen some men of God in our world. I m convinced dat endtime is near if not here. May God have mercy on we "so-called Christians". Amen

I do not thing the Man should be saying such things in public or taking back stuff if he had given them to her but at the same time I'm shaking my head at people talking about the Sex issues. Are you demeaning womanhood by equating sex with cars?! are you saying indirectly that sex is something a woman 'gives' a man in exchange for something? I thought sex was a 'shared' experience between man and woman? (thats my definition, no apologies to anyone who practices it any other way)

Or is thsi just an unwitting admission that some women see sex as a commodity?

It's not a matter of being a saint. I don't claim to be one and I am not perfect. Before anyone starts to think I go to his church- Let me say I don't go to his church and neither do I know him.I live in the U.S. and I have been to Nigeria just three times so I have no connection with him. Until I see an actual documented video with Pastor Chris Okotie making the statement people claim he made in front of the church, then I would believe. But let's assume he made those statement, most people coming here claiming they are Christians are no different from him. So Pastor Chris Okotie made all this horrible statement on the pulpit in church, does that mean you should act the same way. Everyone has called him names from -- "SOB" "the B-word","Idiot", "Crazy", "Fool", "Stupid" "Womanizer" "he should die and go to hell". So now tell me after saying all this things are you any better than him. Christian meaning "Christ Like"; whatever you do, write or say as a Christian should bring out positivity or have a positive impact in others. If you see your brother, pastor, or reverend falling (in sin) do plunge him deeper into it or would you decide to pray for him. Almost everyone's comment has been filled with so much negativity and hatred. What good or positive impact will come out from all the name calling. In no way am I condoning what he has done. I hate the sin but I don't hate the man. No one here is so perfect and saintly. Sin is Sin, there are no categories of sin. There is no small sin or big sin. Whether it's stealing, lying, cheating on your spouse, cheating in an exam, fornication, bribing, killing, looking at a woman/man lustfully, swearing, cursing adultery and so many others. I am pretty sure most of us including myself have done some of these things so that means we are not perfect. You don't correct sin with another sin or negativity. Instead : Ephesians 4:29 tells us, " Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." I hope everyone has a fabulous remainder of the week. PEACE!

When a man refuse to have a spiritual father or a mentor, the go astray. Caution to us all, especially our ladies- marry a man who you know he has a good mentor. don't marry bcos of money or bcos he is famous. marry with your senses.
Also please don't talk wrongly to the man of God. so that you will not carry what does belong to you. lets be praying for him and his followers. thanks

that marriage is for permanence, not to be broken or entered into for convenience. When we enter marriage for convenience only, divorce will definitely set in just like any business transaction in which we entered into. Marriage should not be transacted in order to satisfy the needs of a particular situation only.

Marriage is a permanent situation; we should enter marriage with the intent of that marriage being permanent with no chance of ending in divorce.

When the crowd asked Jesus to teach or talk about marriage, they wanted him to interpret the Old Testament Law of Moses. We see in his answer, Jesus spoke about the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Most teachings of Jesus in the gospel passages are parallel passages which are often repeated word for word in different gospels.

It was quite significant that amongst the crowds that tried to trap Jesus were two groups of opposing rabbis that wanted Jesus to settle their disputes about marriage and divorce. If he supported divorce, he would be upholding the Pharisees procedures and they doubted if he would do that. If Jesus spoke against divorce, however, some members of the crowd would dislike his position.

Some might have wanted to use the law to their advantage to divorce their wives. More important, Jesus might have incurred the wrath of Herod who had already killed John the Baptist for speaking out against divorce and adultery. (John 6 v 17–28).

These were the issues which the Pharisees wanted to trap Jesus with, because they saw divorce as a legal issue rather than a spiritual one.
Jesus however used this test as an opportunity to re-emphasize God’s plan, purpose and aim for marriage and to expose the selfish motives of the Pharisees. They were not thinking about what God’s plan for marriage was, but they just wanted to use the directives of Moses out of context.
We see that Jesus used the opportunity to show the teachers of the law how superficial their knowledge really was, of course Jesus knew what Moses taught, but he asked them so that it will be from their mouths that he will teach about the law of Moses and what it teaches about marriage.

V 5 – 9 of our passage explains that God allowed divorce as a concession to the sinful nature of man. Jesus explained that divorce was not God’s ideal plan for marriage. God wants married people to consider their marriage permanent.

God intends husband and wife to stay together for life. This is God’s plan for ALL people. No one should marry except with the intention of living with the same partner for life.

V 9 shows us that Jesus had in mind the marriage of one man with one woman and that what
God had joined, let no man divide, and V 11 tells us that whoever divorces his wife and marries commits adultery.

Jesus forbids Christians to re-marry during the lifetime of their life partner.
Different versions of the Scriptures explained explicitly the need for man to remain with his wife for life. Mark 10 v 1-12 is quite explanatory in all the various versions of the Holy Scripture.
A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and cleave closely to her permanently, and the two shall become one flesh so that they are no longer two, but one flesh.

The above passage covers the historical as well as narrative teachings about marriage and divorce.
In the Old Testament, God condemns divorce. In the New Testament, God also condemns divorce.

In the marriage institution amongst Christians of today, God almighty condemns divorce. There is no portion of the Bible that supports for the Christian man or woman to divorce his or her marriage partner.

The passage is a narrative teaching about the plan of God for marriage. Jesus used the question of marriage to talk about God’s plan for marriage and divorce.

In comparison, marriage in the New Testament with marriages in the Old Testament-Marriage of Abraham and Sarah,

-Marriage of Isaac and Rebeccah etc

While in the New Testament we see that Jesus not only supports marriages but He attends marriages. John 2 v 1 – 5 shows us that Jesus was present at a marriage ceremony where he changes water into wine. We have advices about marriages in both the Old and New Testaments 1 Cor. 7 v 28, No one sins by marrying.
Gen. 2 v 23 – 24 A man and woman should leave their parents and marry, thereby becoming one flesh.

Conclusion
The concept of marriage as intended by God is that it is a very permanent institution designed by God himself as the original plan for man to marry and not separate or divorce. God planned marriage for the bonding of society, to provide stability for a man, his clan and his nation.
Another reason for marriage is the companionship. In Matthew 19 v 6 as well as Mark 10 v 9, it is stated that the two will be yoked together and become one flesh. A union instituted by God and therefore not to be broken. From all passages of Scripture, marriage can be defined as a covenant between a man and a woman to an exclusive relationship that affects every part of their being as long as the two shall live.
God allows divorce only in the case of adultery or sexual unfaithfulness; we see in conclusion therefore that:
• Marriage is instituted by God.
• Divorce is not part of God’s design, and all divorces are caused by sin.
• Divorce with the intention of re-marrying a specific person is adultery which is sin.
• God does not like divorce.
